Be sober
If you kill someone when over the limit or drugged behind the wheel you will be sent to prison for up to ten years.

In memory of: Benjamin Lawrence Brown, 31, who died on 30 July 1997
Benjamin Lawrence Brown, 31, was killed on 30 July 1997 when a drunk driver on a pub-crawl lost control on a winding road and crashed into the Brown's car. The driver ran away, but when found six hours later was still over the limit.
Ben's wife Jackie, injured in the crash, is left to cope with bringing up their two sons, Alfie and Noah, who were aged just one and three when Ben died.
One in seven deaths on the road are still caused by a driver who has drunk alcohol. The numbers caused by people under the influence of drugs is unknown, but drugs undoubtedly cause some deaths. Never drive under the influence. Alcohol and drugs impair co-ordination, reactions, and judgement and can give a false sense of confidence. Remember...
Don't drink and drive
Even half a pint has an effect.
Only time gets rid of alcohol
Sometimes it takes up to 24 hours to get rid of alcohol. Sleeping, drinking coffee or having a shower do not help you sober up any faster. Do not think that you are safe to drive in the evening if you drank at lunchtime, or that you are safe to drive first thing in the morning if you drank the night before.
Some legal drugs have side effects
This is explained on the label. Never take such drugs and drive. If in doubt, ask your doctor or chemist.
Illegal drugs are unpredictable and dangerous
Taking illegal drugs and driving is clearly not an option.
Fit to Drive?
In 2004, Green Flag Motoring Assistance and Brake surveyed over 1000 drivers on their attitudes to alcohol, drugs and tiredness behind the wheel. The findings demonstrated that, although most drivers realise it is important to be in full control of their vehicle, significant numbers admit to driving when tired or under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
